This question comes up a lot in my world, and I love it — because it usually comes from a woman who has been having experiences she cannot explain and is trying to find language for them.
The honest answer is that the line between psychic ability and deep intuition is less clear than most people think. But understanding the difference — and more importantly, understanding your own primary channel — changes everything about how you access your inner guidance.
Intuition vs psychic ability
Intuition is the natural knowing that every human being has access to — a direct channel to the body’s intelligence, to the soul’s knowing, to the field of information that exists beyond the thinking mind. It is not supernatural. It is a faculty, like hearing or seeing, that can be developed, trusted, and refined.
Psychic ability tends to refer to the capacity to receive information about people, situations, or events through non-ordinary means — beyond what the five physical senses can access. Most women who ask me if they are psychic are, in fact, deeply intuitive — and often clairsentient, which is the gift of feeling.
The four primary channels
Clairvoyance is receiving through inner seeing — images, symbols, colours that arise in the mind’s eye. Clairsentience is receiving through feeling — in the body, in the emotional field, in response to people and environments. This is the most common gift among empathic women. Claircognizance is receiving through knowing — a sudden, complete certainty that arrives without any clear sensory pathway. And clairaudience is receiving through hearing — words, phrases, or an inner voice that is distinct from your own mental chatter.
How to identify your primary channel
Reflect on how you most naturally receive information about the world. When you get a strong intuitive hit, what form does it take? Do you see something? Feel something? Simply know? Hear a word or phrase?
Your primary channel is usually the one that has been most active your entire life — so natural that you may have never recognised it as a gift. The invitation is to stop trying to be intuitive in someone else’s way and start trusting the channel that has been open all along.
